In conjunction with Stadium Way being extended even farther south to State Highway 36 and north to Interstate 20 in 1974, the city accepted the Chamber of Commerce suggestion and voted to change the name of Stadium Way and to honor the Abilene attorney and former chairman of the Texas Highway Commission who was one of the architects of the modern and efficient state highway system.
